in Montgomery County's nationally accredited Department of Correction and Rehabilitation offers excellent advancement opportunities in a challenging and rewarding field. As a Correctional Officer, you'll be responsible for protecting the public by providing custody and security services for pre-trial and locally sentenced adult offenders at one of the County's correctional facilities.

To apply, you must the following minimum qualifications:
  • One (1) year of post High School full-time work experience or its equivalent.
  • Successful completion of one (1) year or more of college (full-time student status) may be substituted for the one (1) year of post High School full-time work experience. Excess work experience beyond one (1) year requirement may NOT be substituted for requirement of completion of High School, as stipulated by the Maryland State Correctional Training Commission.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Individuals appointed to this position must be at least 18 years of age on the date of appointment and be either a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.
  • High School Diploma or GED
As a Correctional Officer I (Private), you will receive both formal classroom training and on-the-job training during your first year on the job, including training offered at the Maryland State Police and Correctional Training Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy, you'll be certified as a Correctional Officer and will have excellent career advancement opportunities.
