DUTIES: Information About The Job: For Sex Offender Treatment Counselors: Provide intensive sex offender treatment to include development, implementation and modification of individual treatment plans. Conduct and prepare psycho-sexual evaluation for use by community corrections, Parole Board, and treatment providers in the community. Prepare Parole Board assessment to assist the Board in making release decisions. Participate in support education meetings on a periodic basis. This position will participate in the standardized training workshop for correctional system regarding the Dynamics of Sex Offenders. Provide crisis intervention and consultation to correctional staff concerning high risk behaviors of sex offenders in Colorado Department of Corrections facilities. Provide on-call mental health coverage on a rotating basis.
For Substance Abuse Program (Drug and Alcohol Treatment) Counselors: Provide standardized offender assessments, group therapy, participate in treatment planning for individual offenders, and support the therapeutic communities throughout the CDOC. Provide intensive outpatient treatment and relapse prevention, assist in the coordination of self-help support groups, and provide transitional assistance for offenders leaving the CDOC. Certified Addiction Counselors, level II or III, delivers Drug and Alcohol treatment to offender population in accordance with ADAD guidelines. Maintain individual treatment files and document treatment activities, and collaborate with clinical services team, to include Mental Health and Sex Offender treatment teams.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SEX OFFENDER COUNSELOR: Bachelors Degree in a Mental Health Discipline, one (1) year experience in professional sex offender counseling AND actively enrolled in a Masters Level graduate degree program in a Mental Health Discipline.
SUBSTITUTION FOR THE SEX OFFENDER COUNSELOR: Masters Degree in a Mental Health Discipline will substitute for the minimum requirements.
YOU MUST INCLUDE COPIES OF YOUR BACHELORS DEGREE TRANSCRIPTS AND PROOF OF ENROLLMENT IN A MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM (OR TRANSCRIPTS) IN A MENTAL HEALTH DISCIPLINE, IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR: Bachelors Degree in a Mental Health Discipline AND one (1) year experience in professional substance abuse counseling. Substance Abuse Counselors must be a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), level II or III.
SUBSTITUTION FOR THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR: Professional substance abuse counseling work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement which will equate to five (5) years. There is no substitution for the Certified Addition Counselor (CAC), level II or III.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Must be 21 years of age;
• Posses a high school diploma or G.E.D.;
• Possess a valid State of Colorado Driver’s License;
• Have NO felony convictions;
• Successfully complete the Department of Corrections Basic Training upon hire and initial drug screening and random drug screening throughout employment;
• Possess the physical
• Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
• Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
• Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
• Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
• Swing a baton in a striking technique;
• Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
• Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
• Successful completion of a background investigation. Should applicant’s background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges;
• Willing and able to occasionally travel;
• Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;
• Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
• Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
• Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
• Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;
• Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;
• Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;
• Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
• TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire.
