INFORMATION ABOUT THE JOB:

DUTIES: For the Mental Health Program - provide delivery of mental health services to offender population in compliance with mental health guidelines to include assessment of mental health needs, individual and group therapy, and monitoring of offenders with mental illness. Work with other staff regarding the mental health needs of offenders, assisting in the management of offenders with mental illness or mental problems and provide training regarding needs and issues, as well as provide direct care in case of psychiatric crisis or emergencies. Position will be required to participate in 24 hour On-Call System. Assure both emergency and non-emergency transfer for offenders experiencing acute mental health crisis. Render clinical direction to non-clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of offenders. Assure continuity of care for offenders by making appropriate referral and providing necessary information and documentation for transition to receiving units, facilities or agencies.

For the Sex Offender Treatment Program - Provide mental health identification, assessment, evaluation, and intensive sex offender treatment, including development and implementation of individual treatment plans; conduct group and individual therapy, conduct and prepare evaluations for case management, community corrections, Parole Board, and other community agencies; prepare release plans with parole and community agencies; conduct workshops for the sexual offenders' community support system; mentor new therapists regarding therapy with sex offenders; provide crisis intervention. This position will conduct training workshops for the correctional system regarding the dynamics of sex offender treatment and management in a correction setting, and high risk behaviors. Provide on call mental health coverage on a rotating basis.

EMPLOYEES IN THESE POSITIONS ARE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters Degree in a behavioral science, valid licensure through the State of Colorado as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) AND one (1) year professional sex offender counseling or mental health counseling experience. Listing with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board as an Associate or Full Operating Sex Offender Treatment Provider is preferred. YOU MUST PROVIDE A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR COLORADO LCSW, LPC or LMFT WITH YOUR APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Must be 21 years of age;
• Posses a high school diploma or G.E.D.;
• Possess a valid State of Colorado Driver’s License;
• Have NO felony convictions;
• Successfully complete the Department of Corrections Basic Training upon hire and initial drug screening and random drug screening throughout employment;
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics).

• Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
• Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
• Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
• Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
• Swing a baton in a striking technique;
• Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
• Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
• Successful completion of a background investigation. Should applicant’s background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges;
• Willing and able to occasionally travel;
• Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;
• Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
• Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
• Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
• Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;
• Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;
• Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;
• Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
• TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire.
